Hadley Public Library looking to complete collection

Date: 8/23/2022

HADLEY – The Hadley Public Library is seeking to complete its collection of Hopkins Arms, the yearbook for Hopkins Academy.

The library has about 25 of the more than 100 editions, with the earliest yearbook in the collection dating from 1917. Library Director Patrick Borezo said they have not received any donations since a Facebook post from Aug. 4 asked for additional donations of yearbooks or other Hadley items like street lists that are in good condition.

“The interesting thing that I have observed is that the format of the earliest volumes are more about student writing and contain few, if any, photos,” Borezo said in an interview with Reminder Publishing “The earliest volumes are a simple, professionally printed, magazine format, unlike the modern hardcover yearbooks that we are more familiar with now.”

Hopkins Academy opened in 1664 as a private school for boys and now ranks as one of the oldest public high schools still in operation.

“They are definitely a time capsule and interesting to leaf through,” Borezo said.
Contrubutions can be made by dropping books off at the library, located at 50 Middle St. Any questions can be directed to the library by calling 584-7451 or by messaging them on Facebook.
