HADLEY – Help Hadley keep its streets, streams, ponds and trails clean by joining in the second annual Spring Cleanup Day this Saturday, April 9, rain or shine.
Participants will gather at 8 a.m. at Home Depot to pick up supplies before dispersing to various parts of the town. Residents can register and find information on problem areas around town that need attention at https://www.hadleyma.org/home/news/please-join-hadley-climate-change-committee-2-exciting-events-april.
“In addition to making our town look better, we invite people to clean up in order to recycle glass, aluminum, and plastic bottles and cans and to prevent animals from getting tangled up in plastic,” said Hadley Climate Change Committee Chair Jack Czajkowski. “It is better to dispose of this trash properly than to let some of these items leach into the water.”
Czajkowski said that over 20 people helped collect approximately 500 pounds of trash in the town’s first Spring Cleanup Day last year. Once registered, you will be able to drop off all trash collected at the Hadley Transfer Station by 3 p.m.
“For this event, whatever bag you have used will be accepted,” Czajkowski said. “There is no need to purchase and use the bags usually required for trash at the Transfer Station. The Hadley Police and Fire Departments have been notified about this event. Please be careful as you gather trash. Wear bright clothes and stay off the roads.”
The Hadley Climate Change Committee is also hosting its first-ever Climate Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 23, one day after Earth Day. Both events are encouraged by the town as COVID-19-safe methods of enjoying productive community events and spending time outside with loved ones for the greater good of the town and wildlife.
