HADLEY — The Hartsbrook School hosts its annual Artisan Market on Nov. 18, an afternoon of shopping and community events open to the children yet geared to the older crowd.
Rachel Beaupre, a Hartsbrook parent, volunteer organizer and a vendor at the market said the event has been around for more than 30 of the Hadley Waldorf school’s more than 40-year history.
“The Artisan Market has always been a part of the school’s holiday fair,” she said, referring to the smaller community event for the Hartsbrook families.
The market, open to the public in the afternoon, will feature live music, wine and cheese and takes place in the school’s Piening Hall.
Some 30 vendors will be on hand at the market, many from the Pioneer Valley and nearby areas of Connecticut and New Hampshire. Beaupre said many of the vendors, herself included, have been with the market for several years.
Visitors to the market will see an array of homemade crafts, Beaupre said.
“There’s handmade beeswax candles, leather footwear, a lot of knitwear from a local alpaca farm that has beautiful knit socks, hats and gloves,” she said. “There’s children’s toys, fiber art and ceramics and jewelry.”
Local artists will be marketing their own creations, including woodcut prints, illustrations and wildlife photography.
“We’re lucky we have a number of artisans who are school parents or staff or past faculty who involved,” she said.
Beaupre will be featuring wares from her own studio, Wee Things Fiber Arts, where she creates children’s toys and stuffed animals from natural materials as well as sewing kits for children and adults.
The market itself looks for vendors and artists who make use of natural materials in there, keeping in line with school’s philosophy.
The Artisan Market is open on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hartsbrook school, located at 193 Bay Rd.
