HADLEY — The Norwottuck Rail Trail Tunnel under Route 9 reopened following construction work to accommodate the widening of Route 9 and allow for repair operations in the area.
John Goggin, with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation issued the advisory following a month-long closure in order to complete the project.
“An additional partial day closure of the tunnel will be required for final paving and will be announced with an advisory once scheduled,” Goggin said in a statement. “The previous detour will be in place during this closure, which is expected to be scheduled by early November.”
The Department of Conservation and Recreation closed the segment of the Norwottuck rail trail from the tunnel to South Maple Street in Hadley to facilitate pavement crack repair operations.
During the closure, MassDOT constructed a detour passage for bicycle and pedestrian traffic navigating the Belchertown/Northampton route.
