Brimfield School Committee, Select Board appoint new member

Date: 10/5/2022

BRIMFIELD – A new member will be joining the Brimfield School Committee after being appointed during a joint meeting with the Select Board on Sept. 26.

School Committee members Jennifer Custance, Eric Jaeger and Joseph Venezia went before the Select Board to discuss the sole candidate looking to fill the remainder of a three-year term. Custance shared that only one candidate expressed interest in joining the committee. The candidate, Laurie Noyes, was a teacher in Sturbridge for 25 years. “We find that she would be a suitable match to join us on the Brimfield School Committee,” said Custance.

The School Committee and Select Board voted unanimously in favor of Noyes’ appointment.

Building Committee report

George Adams, Select Board member, shared a report from the Building Committee.

He explained that the Building Committee has a total of $23,773 in funds compared to the $18,000 that they thought they had at the previous Select Board meeting.

Adams noted that the Fire Department needs $2,500 for storage shelves and the Highway Department needs $800 for lumber to build that storage area. This leaves a balance of roughly $16,973 for the Police Department, he said.

Police Chief Charles Kuss shared that they are looking to construct a canopy over the back door of the Police Department. While he is currently waiting on a quote, it’s predicted to cost roughly $2,000.

To install security cameras at the station, Kuss said will be “much more expensive,” as they run about $1,700 per camera. “We’re looking at anywhere between eight and 12 cameras over there so it’s getting expensive,” he added. To try and shrink down the cost, Kuss said they may try to start with the base and go from there.
