Brimfield Selectmen approve several appointments

Date: 7/1/2022

BRIMFIELD – The Brimfield Board of Selectmen began their June 27 meeting with a moment of silence for the three youth that were killed in a car crash over the weekend.

Board member Suzanne Collins said, “Words cannot express the tremendous grief our community is experiencing over the tragedy of the past week. As a community, we are stunned. We mourn the tragic loss of lives and injuries, and our deepest sympathy goes out to the victims, their families and friends.”

She continued, “We commend the heroic action and courage of all the emergency personnel.”

Board Reorganization

Pat Leaming, current vice-chair, nominated Martin Kelly as chair, to which the board unanimously approved.

Leaming then nominated Collins to take his position as vice-chair. The board voted unanimously in favor.

Police Chief Appointment

Several residents were present during the meeting to discuss and hear the verdict on the appointment of Police Chief Charles Kuss.
Kelly said, “We are going to put the police chief appointment on hold because there is agreement between Chief Kuss and the Board of Selectmen that we will have an executive session to discuss his mandatory retirement later this year. The appointment is tabled for now.”

The board determined that the executive session would take place on June 30, after Reminder Publishing’s deadline.
