Brimfield’s first Old Home Day set to include crafts, food and more

Date: 4/13/2022

BRIMFIELD – The Brimfield Old Home Days Committee is in the planning stages for their first Old Home Day event on July 30 from 2 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. Brimfield Auction Acres, birthplace of the world famous Brimfield Antique shows, has donated their field for the occasion.

The committee has a slew of ideas in the works for their first Old Home Day. Currently, they are planning to host a vendor marketplace for local artisans and crafters. There will be a food court where, at this time, St. Christopher Catholic Church will provide chicken barbeque dinners, while the Brimfield Community Partnership will be offering cotton candy and popcorn. Live music will be provided by Brimfield Winery, and there will be designated nonprofit stations where all of the nonprofits from the community are invited and encouraged to create an activity for the purpose of raising funds for their causes.

“We’re really at the beginning stages right now of recruiting all of these organizations,” said Kate Corriveau, one of the chairpersons organizing Brimfield Home Day. “Hopefully, we’ll have a petting zoo and a cornhole tournament. At the end of the event, we’re going to finish off with fireworks, and that’s where the fundraising is going to be needed.”

Brimfield Old Home Days is a nonprofit organization that is promoting fellowship, creating family memories and a venue for all of their local non-profits for community out-reach and fundraising. Corriveau told Reminder Publishing that the town of Wales has an Olde Home Day that’s been running successfully for years, and she always thought that Brimfield should have one. Now, she said this year seems like the right time.

“We welcome any additional people that would like to help us in the planning,” Corriveau said. “We’re sending out emails to the nonprofits and businesses in Brimfield and around Brimfield to help us sponsor the fireworks. We really need the sponsorships and have different sponsorship levels for people to contribute to.”

With this being their first event, Corriveau said she wants to make sure it is successful for everyone. Due to COVID-19, nonprofit organizations have been hit extremely hard; she said she hopes the Brimfield Old Home Day event will create a venue to bring the whole town out to support these groups.

The committee is aiming to raise $10,000 for the Brimfield Old Home Day. They have been awarded $1,000 from the Brimfield Cultural Committee, which Corriveau said they are very grateful for.

“Everybody of different age groups have contributed to the town throughout their lives,” said Corriveau. “This is a way to bring them all together to celebrate the great community we have. To celebrate all of our neighbors and our childhood memories.”
She continued, “We hope that in the future it could grow into something that bring people back to Brimfield, back to where they grew up and become something that the town looks forward to every year.”

Any community member that wants to help the committee in planning and assist in coordinating nonprofits may attend any of the groups planning meetings which are posted on their Facebook page, or email brimoldhomeday@gmail.com.
