Brimfield’s Wreaths Across America: Paying homage to fallen heroes

Date: 12/27/2022

BRIMFIELD – On Dec. 17, Wreaths Across America Brimfield Cemetery placed remembrance wreaths on veterans’ graves in honor of National Wreaths Across America Day. Every year on the Saturday before Christmas folks throughout the United States pay tribute to the veterans who have given their lives for the country.

“This is Brimfield’s third year,” said Wreaths Across America Brimfield Cemetery Location Coordinator and founder Manda Day. “I had attended other Wreaths Across America in other towns and cities, and I thought it would be a great thing to do in Brimfield. We appreciate all the support from every sponsor and every sponsor/volunteer make this event possible.”

Wreaths Across America started in 1992 when Morrill Worcester, owner of the Worcester Wreath Company in Harrington, ME, had a surplus of wreaths, which he then placed on veterans’ graves in an older section of Arlington Cemetery. This year across the country they had over 3,700 cemeteries nationwide honoring 2.5 million veterans and 24 overseas locations.

“It’s very important to remember these men and women. Some have given their lives, and some have fought for this country, so we honor them by showing respect and appreciation.”

She continued, “We want to teach the younger generation the importance of our military and the sacrifices they’ve made for the country.”
