Holland survey to assist with hazard mitigation, future plans for town

Date: 12/27/2022

HOLLAND – To update the town of Holland’s Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) and to complete its first Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) planning process, residents are being asked to share input through a public survey.

During the Dec. 20 Board of Selectmen meeting, Town Administrator Stacy Stout explained that an MVP meeting took place, and the survey was posted on the town’s website on Dec. 14.

The purpose of the survey is for residents to share what current and future natural hazards are most concerning.

According to the town, an updated HMP will help identify strategies to reduce its vulnerability to hazards such as flooding, winter storms and drought.

One factor that may cause an increase in the severity of natural hazards is climate change.

Through the MVP plan, Holland hopes to establish a roadmap that can be integrated into plans and policies.

In the short time the survey has been posted, Stout said there have been several responses.

The survey can be found online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HollandHazard.

Paper surveys are also available at the Town Hall.
