HOLLAND – American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds will be used on two projects in Holland after the Board of Selectmen provided unanimous approval.
During the Jan. 17 Board of Selectmen meeting, a motion was made to approve up to $25,000 of ARPA funds to upgrade the appliances and installation in the Community Center.
Town Administrator Stacy Stout explained that the Community Center kitchen upgrade includes replacing the refrigerator, dishwasher, oven/range and grill and adding a freezer, pizza oven while also adding additional work surface and storage.
“When the center opened in 2006, the kitchen equipment was donated,” said Stout. “At that time, food was not prepared in-house but rather brought in and warmed. Now we have a kitchen manager and offer complete lunches – including dessert – made fresh on Mondays and Wednesdays for a very reasonable $5 – $3 for Holland senior residents.”
Along with the dine-in program, the center also offers a take-out option which Stout noted is “very popular,” serving about 20 to 25 people take-outs on food service days.
“The kitchen upgrade will allow the center to order in bulk for cost savings, prepare things in batches, accept donations of perishable items and support the increasing interest in the lunch program,” said Stout.
“The Community Center is thrilled to have these funds allocated to continue to expand and elevate food services,” she added.
The second motion the Board of Selectmen voted on was to spend up to $5,000 from ARPA funds for an enhanced VPN installation that will connect all town buildings to a central network.
