Tantasqua and Union 61 school committees discuss annual superintendent evaluation

Date: 6/6/2022

FISKDALE – The Tantasqua Regional School Committee hosted a meeting on May 23 to discuss a variety of agenda items. Tantasqua and Union 61 School Committees joined to approve the Superintendent Deborah Boyd’s FY21-22 evaluation to begin the meeting.

Boyd was rated on previous goals that the committees had set for her last year.
These goals consisted of focusing on a successful transition of the new superintendent, focusing on a transition back to a post-COVID[-19] school year, focusing on identified actions for the school year to influence the District Improvement Plan, working on the implementation and oversight of ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) fund money, providing ongoing district-level support for new members of the School Committee and administration and partnering with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) to determine the viability of MSBA projects throughout the district.

Based on the feedback from both Tanstasqua and Union 61 School Committee members, an overwhelming majority felt that Boyd had met or made progress in each of these goals. Some of these are multi-year goals and the progress will be ongoing.

There were 21 exemplary ratings of Boyd and nine proficient ratings. There were no ratings beneath these levels. Both committees unanimously approved Boyd’s overall rating of exemplary for the FY22 school year.

The committees also approved the proposed goals for the FY23 school year.
These consisted of focusing on student and staff surveys and assessments to improve the experience of district programs, continuing to hire and orient new administrators and retain top talent, continuing the District Improvement Plan and focusing on conducting communications and marketing evaluations and assessments to be able to deliver news and announcements effectively to the public.

The joint meeting then ended and Tantasqua began their regular School Committee meeting.

The committee voted on the reorganization of chair, vice chair and secretary positions.

Mike Valanzola was re-elected as chair, William Haggerty was re-elected as vice chair and Sheila Noyes-Miller was re-elected as secretary.

The meeting ended with routine new business discussions and approvals.
