Tantasqua Regional School Committee hosts first meeting of school year

Date: 9/28/2022

FISKDALE – The Tantasqua Regional School Committee met to host their first meeting of the 2022 school year on Sept. 20.

The meeting kicked off with many principals from the district expressing their happiness to be back to school and to be having a somewhat normal start after the coronavirus pandemic.

During committee reports, student representative Jake Rosen spoke on the beginning of the school year at the high school. Rosen said that both students and staff were overjoyed to return to school on Aug. 30 without the necessity of face masks.

“They did so as themselves, rather than behind the guise of a face mask,” said Rosen.

Rosen said the high school’s Student Council has hosted their first meeting including new freshmen members and that they will be hosting their annual Homecoming Dance on Oct. 1. The second annual sneaker drive in partnership with the Rotary Club will also take place in October.

Rosen emphasized that any students looking to get involved with clubs can receive more information on the high school’s website, see the bulletin board during lunch and listen to morning announcements. He said that he will continue to keep the School Committee updated on events and news.

Superintendent Deborah Boyd called the beginning of the year a “great, refreshing kick-off” and said that teachers and staff are excited to be back.

Professional Development Day will take place on Oct. 7 and the School Committee’s November meeting was moved from Nov. 15 to Nov. 22.

The meeting, which focused mostly on expressing happiness to be back, ended shortly after Boyd’s report. The next Tantasqua School Committee meeting will take place on Oct. 18.
