Wales to celebrate biannual Old Home Day on Aug. 5

Date: 7/25/2023

WALES — The town of Wales will be having its 261st Olde Home Day on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 2-11 p.m. behind the Wales Elementary School on 41 Main St.

Wales Olde Home Day is a biannual celebration of all things Wales. The event will include a parade, bounce houses, kids’ activities, local bands such as Wicked Biscuit and Fuel the Magic, craft vendors, food vendors, beer garden, corn hole boards and fireworks.

Treasurer Roy Lainson said, “We like to focus on Wales and Wales appreciation. That’s what Olde Home Day is all about is to bring our community together. We’re a small town with not a lot of businesses, but we have lots of good people, we’re a strong community and this event helps bring folks together.”

All About Handmade, Wilson Novelties, Suzy Q’s Ice Cream, Wales Library Auxiliary and Wales VFW are some of the vendors participating. Bean bag, tug of war, sand art, building sun catchers and paddle ball coloring will be the activities offered to children. Plus, Maggie the Clown will be on site to have a magic show and make balloon animals for the kids.

“When we have an event like this in Wales, it’s a time for people to reach out and see those they haven’t seen for a little while,” Lainson said. “It’s a lot of work and preparation, but it’s rewarding when all of these families can show up on the day and everything just works. People are having a good time, kids are running around bouncing on the bounce house and watching the fireworks. It’s a great opportunity for the people of Wales to be able to have fun and get together with each other.”
