SOUTHAMPTON – After a year without an event, the annual Celebrate Southampton officially unveiled their full schedule for Aug. 13 and 14.
According to the Celebrate Southampton Facebook page, and consistent with what Reminder Publishing reported back in April, music will be available for residents on Aug. 13. Becky Nimmons, the co-organizer of the event with Tammy Walunas, said that grab-and-go dinner at the First Congregational Church in Southampton will be available from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The dinner will include baked ham, potato salad, baked beans, a brownie and water. The deadline to RSVP?for the dinner, however, was Aug. 9.
After that, residents are invited to attend performance by Decades at the Conant Park Pavilion at 7 until 8 p.m. Raffle tickets – $5 per sheet of 25 – and Celebrate Southampton shirts for $10 will be available that night.
According to Nimmons, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Aug. 14, booths from specific organizations will be setting up for 11:30 a.m. Memory hour at the First Congregational Church will occur from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Aug. 15. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Heritage Books and the Old Library will be open to the public.
A town picnic will occur at 11:30 a.m. that day, as well. Raffle tickets and Celebrate Southampton shirts will also be available on the second day of the event.
The Citizen of the Year Award will be presented at 12:30 on Aug. 14, while a balloonist in the park and music in the Conant Pavilion will occur from 1 to 3 p.m. Music in general will be available from 1 to 4 p.m. Lastly, a pickleball demo and games will close out the celebration from 3 to 4 p.m.
Butterfly artwork from Norris Elementary School students will be on display on Aug. 14 to support the town Selectboard’s Monarch Pledge, according to Nimmons. The Monarch Pledge aims to create conditions favorable to the monarch butterfly and other pollinators.
The celebration is open to all ages, and people are encouraged to bring their own lunch for the second day.
