GOSHEN – The town of Goshen has chosen Whip City Fiber to install municipal broadband internet systems throughout various neighborhoods.
Installation of the distribution network began in February and according to resources provided by the town, “The distribution network consists of all the existing utility poles that are on both public and private roads in Goshen. The distribution network will connect back to the Network Hut and to the backbone, which is the main transmission line. It does not include any of the service drops which will connect the distribution network to customer premises. Service drops, or customer installations, are scheduled after sections of the distribution network are completed.”
Lisa Stowe, marketing communications, community engagement and grants manager of Whip City Fiber said, currently, there are two crews working on running the network fibers down streets.
Whip City Fiber works on one area at a time and aims for completion before moving to the next one.
Stowe informed Reminder Publishing the installation is broken into fiber service areas.
“The first (middle) area will be released for installation to start this summer,” said Stowe.
The southern part of town will be released for installation in the fall and the northern part is set for 2022.
In essence, the construction “rolls on,” said Stowe.
To sign-up for this broadband network, residents can visit Whip City Fiber’s website where they’ll find a sign-up form to enter their address. Then, an application will pop up that needs to be completed.
Stowe said, some of the benefits for their services include the high-speed internet in general- especially during a time when many people are working/learning from home.
Goshen residents are looking forward to their new services and wish to receive it as soon as possible, Stowe said. “Every taxpayer is contributing and benefiting from the network. It will benefit property values and the community going forward.”
She emphasized, “We capture each area and we are very excited that Goshen chose us.”
