HATFIELD – During the Hatfield Select Board’s June 15 meeting, the board voted to remove all emergency orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic and give authority over all COVID-19 issues to the Board of Health.
Select Board member Brian Moriarty, who served on the town’s COVID-19 committee, said the committee would be disbanding and the Board of Health would be taking over everything related to COVID-19.
“Last March, we put this into effect because of COVID-19 and it allowed us to access the various funding sources available because of COVID. So, the COVID team is being disbanded and at our last meeting we discussed that given the circumstances, that group would be disbanded and everything COVID-related would go through the Board of Health now,” he said.
Moriarty added that the Board of Health would continue to use COVID-19 databases and would oversee seeking any related funding.
“The Board of Health will continue to have somebody on staff that can access the various databases, such as MAVEN, and the funding for any of it will be through the Board of Health,” he said.
Board Chair Diane Szynal added that she wanted to thank former COVID-19 Coordinator Kerry Flaherty for her work during the pandemic.
“She brought herself up to speed on everything, it was constantly changing but she stayed up to date on everything and stayed in touch with us. She kept us informed of the things we needed to know and was a great resource to townspeople too. I honestly do not know what we would have done without Kerry through all this,” she said.
The board unanimously approved the motion to rescind all emergency COVID-19 orders.
As part of its annual business, the board agreed to keep Szynal as the chair for the next fiscal year.
During the meeting, the board also approved the pay rates for town employees for fiscal year 2022 and to observe Juneteenth beginning in 2021.
The Select Board next meets in July.
