SOUTHAMPTON – The Special Town Meeting took place on Oct. 17 on Labrie Field. Town Administrator Edward Gibson said about 95 voters attended.
The meeting started at 10 a.m. and lasted an hour and 20 minutes.
This meeting took place because some articles were taken off the Warrant from the Annual Town Meeting that happened back in August.
“One of the recommendations for safety, the state was to have fewer articles than usual and also not to include controversial articles such as bylaws or zone changes to keep the contact time shorter,” said Gibson.
Every article passed with the exception of Article 5. Article 5 was to see if the town would transfer $7,6000 from the Capital Stabilization Fund to the Town Hall IT Capital Budget to purchase and install six desktop PCs and software and operating systems.
“The town may be eligible for some CARES Act funding due to COVID-19 to replace some of these desktop PCs with laptops for our department heads so that they may be able to work remotely due to the COVID-19 outbreak if we had to close town hall to the staff as well as the public due to increasing positive test results here in the area or Massachusetts,” said Gibson.
Gibson added that the voters thought it would be better for the town to try to get CARES Act funding for the laptops before Town funds were taken for that purpose. The town has until Oct. 31 to apply.
