DCR comments on Gardner State Park vandalism

Date: 6/30/2021

HUNTINGTON – C.M. Gardner State Park on Route 112 North has reopened after gates were closed over the weekend of June 19 and 20 due to a senseless act of vandalism.

According to staff on site, vandals had tipped over the portable toilets on June 18, causing a biohazard, and requiring the park to be closed until it could be cleaned up.

A contractor hired to clean the vandalism was on site on June 21, and the park reopened on June 22. The Department of Conservation and Recreation replied this week to a request for comment on the vandalism at the park.

Gardner State Park, which is a priceless resource offering numerous outdoor recreational opportunities like picnicking, hiking, fishing, and kayaking. Perpetrators of vandalism or such activities may be denied admittance to DCR property, and may be subject to a fine, eviction, banning, or a combination of those penalties,” said Olivia Dorrance, DCR spokesperson.
