CHESTER — The Chester Railway Station Trustees are hosting a meet-and-greet for residents of Chester and Middlefield with newly elected state Sen. Paul Mark. The informal Sunday brunch will take place at 11 a.m. on March 5 at the Historic Chester Railway Station.
Trustee Bob Daley said the event has to be limited to Chester and Middlefield residents due to space constraints at the station. The brunch will feature a breakfast casserole by Carm’s, sweet bites by Melissa McAuliffe and fruit, coffee, tea and juice by the Chester Council on Aging.
Daley said Mark, who was elected last year to former Sen. Adam Hinds’ seat and now represents 57 cities and towns throughout Berkshire, Franklin, Hampden and Hampshire counties, has been very cooperative in the planning for the event.
“He responded immediately, and said ‘absolutely, I want to come,’” Daley said, adding that although the brunch will be informal, when the moment is right, he will introduce the senator to everyone in attendance.
Daley has asked him to address two topics of particular interest to the towns, and to answer other questions raised by attendees. The topics include rural school aid and the East-West Rail proposal, which he said should be no surprise to anyone. He said this will be Mark’s first official visit to the Chester Railway Station.
Daley added that Mark has been a supporter of the expanding rail proposal all along as a former state representative in Berkshire County, and it was just announced last week that he will be the vice chair of the commission studying East-West Rail.
“The stars seem to be aligning,” said Daley, who has been one of the vocal proponents for a stop in Chester on the East-West Rail.
