Low turnout, no contests on ballot for Huntington election

HUNTINGTON — Seventy-one registered voters turned out for the town’s municipal election on May 20 in Stanton Hall. There were no contested races on the ballot, with several positions that had no candidates on the ballot.

William Hathaway, who replaced Karon Hathaway in last year’s special election as a write-in candidate, received 47 votes to win a three-year term as a selectman.

Also on the ballot were Jean Jackman, receiving 57 votes for a three-year term on the Board of Health; Christine Stochlinski, who received 60 votes for a one-year term on the Board of Assessors; Karon Hathaway, receiving 51 votes for a three-year term as Water and Sewer Commissioner; and George Peterson, receiving 66 votes as moderator for one year.

Edward Renauld, chair of the Select Board, was on the ballot for a three-year term as a representative from Huntington on the Gateway Regional School Committee, receiving 54 votes. 

Also on the ballot were Judith Guyette, who received 66 votes as a trustee of the Alphonso Pettis Fund for three years; Linda Siska, receiving 65 votes for a three-year term as library trustee; Jesse Harmon, for a two-year term as library trustee; and Lorena Belhumeur, who received 67 votes for a three-year term as trustee of the Whiting Street Fund

Aaren Hawley received seven votes, the highest write-in for three years as constable; Erik Steins received 17 votes for a one-year term as tree warden; and three candidates received two votes each for a three-year term on the Board of Assessors.
