HUNTINGTON — Visitors to Huntington this Saturday, Sept. 30, and Sunday, Oct. 1, won’t be disappointed. Not only is it a beautiful time of year to come to the Hilltowns, but there are activities throughout the weekend for all ages.
On Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. is the grand opening of the Grey Catbird Pottery Studio and Gift Shop at 20 E. Main St. Proprietor Dale Rogers, who moved the studio and shop from Montgomery Marketplace over the last three weeks, will offer refreshments to visitors as they take a look at the beautiful new space featuring the fine handmade creations of more than 60 artisans and artists.
The gift shop features books for adults and children by local authors, hand-carved toys, birds and mushrooms, hand-turned bowls with turquoise and red coral inlay, cutting boards, birdhouses, unique jewelry, hand-knit baby sweaters, blankets and children’s hats, stuffed animals, candles, soaps and salves, walking sticks and hiking staffs, hand-carved wooden flutes, fall wreaths, hand-painted glassware, fine photography and fine art in archival mattes, hand-built boxes with dragon’s eyes and hand-made journals, stained glass and fused glass art pieces, kitchen sets with matching towels and oven mitts, and handbags.
Rogers also has pottery for sale — mugs, bowls, batter bowls and more. The other half of the space is the Gray Catbird pottery studio, in which Rogers makes her own special creations and teaches five classes a week in both hand-building (slab, pinch and coil) and wheel-throwing techniques.
Another daily offering in the Grey Catbird Gift Shop are Jeanne’s Baked Sweets — pumpkin, blueberry and apple cinnamon muffins, chocolate chip, lemon, peanut butter, and oatmeal raisin cookies, apple crisps and brownies.
“I am very happy to have found my new creative home in the sweet town of Huntington,” Rogers said.
On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Huntington Public Library, 7 E. Main St., will host its annual Friends of the Library Book Sale. Prices are $1 a book or bring and fill an empty bag for $5.
The Huntington Fall Festival takes place rain or shine on both Sept. 30, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Oct. 1, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on the Huntington Town Green and in Stanton Hall at the intersection of routes 20 and 112.
The festival features crafters, food vendors, an apple press demonstration and tasting, and for kids, a petting zoo, free pumpkin painting, face painting and glitter tattoos on both days, and a balloon twister on Sunday.
Live bands include Out of Bands on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Barry Searle and the Time Stretchers on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
