Vaccines, information offered at Huntington Health Fair

Date: 10/21/2021

HUNTINGTON — The Council on Aging hosted a comprehensive health fair for all ages on Oct. 16, with information booths inside Stanton Hall, the Huntington Health Center offering COVID-19 vaccinations and Pfizer vaccine booster shots outside by the gazebo, free hearing tests, and flu vaccinations.

Kathleen Peterson, Huntington’s COA director, said 32 residents had also pre-registered for the Walgreens flu vaccination clinic, offered in Town Hall earlier in the day.

Peterson, who was stationed in Stanton Hall with 10 other service providers, said the fair was successful. She said residents received information about Council on Aging trips, Huntington Food Pantry hours, and other available services from the Hilltown Valley Elder Services, among others.

“We had a very successful fair, thanks to all the hard work of the board members and the people who volunteered their Saturday time to provide information and services to the Hilltown community,” Peterson said.

The Hilltown Health Centers have been holding regular COVID-19 vaccination clinics at locations such as the Cummington Fair, Gateway Regional High School and Hampshire Regional High School. Kim Savery, director of community programs, said once the authorization is given for vaccines for 5- to 12-year-olds, her group plans to increase the number of clinics it holds. It also expects to have Moderna boosters within the week, and said anyone looking for one can call them at 667-3009.

Earmasters of Feeding Hills returned to Town Hall, saving Huntington residents a trip out of town to get their hearing tested. Doriana Vicedomini, who has been in the field for 35 years, explained that the new computerized audiometer tests were high-tech and portable, with the readings available immediately on the computer. After the test, Vicedomini discussed results with participants, along with options for hearing aids, if necessary.
