HUNTINGTON – Memorial Day Parade organizer Lori Belhumeur attended the Selectboard meeting on May 11 to discuss plans for this year’s parade.
Marchers are assembling at Pettis Field at 8 a.m., and will step off at 8:30 a.m. to march to the Town Common. To date, those marching include the Gateway Regional Marching Band, and members of the Red Hat Society and the Pioneer Valley Assembly of God.
Belhumeur reports that former Selectman John McVeigh found a copy of the 1914 Memorial Day address by Woodrow Wilson, which will be read before the placing of the wreath. Other readings will include the John McCrae poem “In Flanders Fields” and a message from the Gov. Charlie Baker. Taps will be played, and there will be a Fire Department rifle salute.
Anyone who would like to march is encouraged to call Belhumeur at 667-3169. Parade observers are reminded to stand, with right hand over the heart, when the American flag held by the color guard passes by.
