HILLTOWNS – The Hilltown Community Development Corp. recently announced the winners of its Hilltown Director “Sights of the Hilltowns” photo contest.
Participants submitted photos they had taken of the 23 hilltowns served by the Hilltown CDC, which were voted on by members of the public. Cash prizes were awarded to the top four participants, and all of the photos will be featured in the Hilltown Directory at www.hilltowndirectory.com.
The top prize of $250, “Grand Shutterbug,” went to Jon Berman of Blandford for an Autumn road in late fall with a sunlit hill in the background.
“This photo was taken a couple autumns ago on Birch Hill Road in Blandford. One of the challenges was the angle of the photo to minimize impact of the telephone wires while still capturing the sunset crested ridgeline. I took the photo using what my friend photographer John Stanmeyer called ‘a fine camera with a phone attached’ - an iPhone 6S,” Berman said.
Katharine Adams, of Otis, received the $100 prize for “Prime Paparazzo.”
"The pastoral scene was photographed on Oct. 6, 2020, near the intersection of Routes 8 and 20, representing a gentle land I frequently gaze upon and admire,” Adams said about her photo.
There were two $50 Awesome Image awards given, the first to Paula Hebert-Pike of Worthington, for her photo of a barn, a popular but vanishing Hilltown subject. “I took the photo in October of 2015. The barn is located on Rt. 112 in Worthington, in the South section of town,” Hebert-Pike said.
The second $50 Awesome Image aware went to Jan Luzzi of Florence. “My photo was taken on the Ashfield Trail system which heads out from the base of Pony Mountain and the Climbing wall, near Chapel Falls. It is fondly known as ‘The Beaver Pond’,” Luzzi said.
Also selected were the top photos of each town. Jan Luzzi of Florence also had the people’s choice award for the towns of Chesterfield and Plainfield; David Butcher received the people’s choice award for both Westhampton and Huntington, and Susanne Robertson for both Goshen and Dalton.
Other people’s choice winners went to Samual Mazzaferro for a photo taken over Chester, Nancy Cole for Cummington, Kelly Bombard for Haydenville, AJ Zahn for Hinsdale, Sarah Foley for Middlefield, Richard Chapman for Montgomery, Karen McTaggart for Otis, Jennifer Radwich for Peru, Elizabeth Massa for Russell, Gavin Chrochiere for Washington, Daria DArienzo for Williamsburg, and Kathryn Wells for Windsor.
“There were so many amazing photos sent in for the contest. Our staff at the Hilltown CDC was overwhelmed at the quality of the entries. There are certainly a lot of great photographers in the hilltowns,” said HCDC Economic Development Coordinator Michele Kenny.
“We are extremely happy with the quality of the print and online directory this year,” Kenny said, adding that it was put together by Paul Stallman of Alias Solutions. She said businesses can add their listing to the online directory by going to www.hilltowndirectory.com.
