LUDLOW – Town Administrator Marc Strange announced that the town of Ludlow was awarded two Best Practices grants from the Community Compact Cabinet (CCC).
The town was awarded a $50,000 Human Resources Best Practices grant and a $45,000 Housing and Economic Development Best Practices grant.
“On behalf of the town of Ludlow, I would like to thank the Baker-Polito administration for awarding our community these significant funding opportunities,” Strange said.
He added, “These awards will help us develop two key plans which will drive Ludlow toward success.”
The CCC’s Human Resources grants are awarded to municipalities interested in building a succession plan to address pending waves of retirements likely to challenge the municipality’s ability to maintain service levels as they lose the expertise of experienced workers.
Strange said the town will use the Human Resources grant to hire a consultant to create a succession plan.
The plan will help ease the transition period after long-time staff members and department heads leave town service.
The CCC’s Housing and Economic Development grants are awarded to municipalities wishing to create an economic development plan that engages diverse stakeholders, leverages local and regional economic strengths and assets, encourages innovation and entrepreneurship, and/or promotes workforce development planning and implementation.
With the Housing and Economic Development grant, Strange said the town will work with the University of Massachusetts Boston Collins Center and Barrett Planning Group to develop an economic development guide.
The guide will outline economic development opportunities in the downtown area.
The CCC was developed by the Baker-Polito administration to facilitate a stronger partnership between municipalities and state government to support communities in efforts to improve their services.
