Date: 12/28/2022

LUDLOW – The Ludlow Cultural Council has awarded more than $23,000 through its 2023 grant cycle.
The council voted at their Nov. 28 meeting to decide which projects to fund.

The funding will support 30 artists and organizations as they educate, entertain, and enrich the lives of Ludlow residents.

Ludlow Cultural Council Chair Michelle Goncalves said, “We wanted to support activities that would appeal to the entire town.”

“Our 2023 grants include a travelling makerspace and balloon magic for children, a cooking and food preservation series for adults, and multiple musical performances geared toward seniors, among many other exciting activities. Overall, we hope they will provide opportunities for residents to come together and promote the cultural vitality of our town.” Goncalves added.

Performances and events will occur at a variety of venues throughout the year including the Ludlow Senior Center, the Randall’s Boys & Girls Club, the Hubbard Memorial Library, the Mack Donnelly Gazebo, the First Church and Keystone Commons.

The grants will also support a summer concert series at the Mack Donnelly Gazebo with a variety of genres of music for everyone to enjoy according to Goncalves.

Summer performers include: Acousticca, Blues Brothers Briefcase Concert, Jeff Gavioli and his Bad News Jazz and Blues Orchestra featuring Cindy Reed, New England Swing Orchestra, the Bad Signs, the Pioneer Valley Concert Band, Triple Louie’s Runaway Train and William Eagen.

The Ludlow Cultural Council is one of 329 local cultural councils funded and organized through the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC).

The MCC Local Cultural Council Program represents the largest cultural funding network in the nation, and they award more than $4 million every year, supporting 6,000 cultural programs that include everything from field trips to lectures, festivals, and dance performances.

In Ludlow, the Cultural Council is run by a small group of volunteers.

Goncalves said, “Residents interested in joining the council are encouraged to send a letter of interest to the Selectmen, as several vacancies currently exist on the Council.”
