Ludlow Cultural Council to host third annual community market

Date: 9/26/2023

LUDLOW — The Ludlow Cultural Council is hosting its third Ludlow Community Market on Saturday, Sept. 30 and Sunday, Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mack Donnelly Gazebo and Memorial Park, 11 East St.

The Community Market is a free event to celebrate the community and art, offer musical entertainment, children’s activities, and 60 plus booths from local artisans, crafters, civic organizations and nonprofits, according to the Ludlow Cultural Council.

Ludlow Cultural Council Chair Michelle Goncalves said, “We were looking for something to bring the community together. A lot of people have said they are looking forward to it. We are also looking forward to this year. It’s not that we just want to have the vendors sell their products but it’s all local. We want everyone in our community to know who the crafters and makers are. We want to support small businesses.”

There will also be nonprofits at the community market including the Hubbard Memorial Library, the Senior Center, the Rotary Club and the Lions Club.

“It is important to the council that we get word out what they do to support the town. Not everyone knows what they do so this is an opportunity to promote the good that they are doing and hopefully recruit some extra members as well,” Goncalves added.

The Ludlow Cultural Council is excited to put on its third annual Community Market.

Goncalves said, “The council has been busy preparing a great market. We are excited to welcome a wide range of local vendors showcasing their crafts from jewelry designers to soap makers, from bakers to 3D toy printers, from quilters and knitters to woodworkers. There is sure to be something for everyone.”

In addition to the vendors, the market will also feature free entertainment including a juggling performance, a visit from a princess, roaming magicians, rock painting, sidewalk chalking and a chainsaw carving demonstration. Goncalves added, “We are grateful to so many community organizations for contributing to the market. LUSO is providing free facepainting all day, the Hubbard Memorial Library is hosting a pop-up library, the Ludlow Police and Fire departments will be on site with their cruisers and fire trucks and Exit 7 will even give a sneak peak performance from their upcoming “Footloose” show.”

The Ludlow Community Band will perform on Saturday and the local Acousticca band will perform on Sunday.

Goncalves said the things she most enjoys most about the event is getting to know people from the community, talking about the different things the Ludlow Cultural Council does and how volunteers are always needed.

She added, “The Cultural Council has a mission of supporting the arts and culture in town. It’s also trying to get the younger generation interested in the arts and show them the importance. Kids will be creating them items at the arts and crafts tent and hopefully we will be talking to parents about the concert series and grants we give out.”

For anyone who has never been to the Community Market, there is something to for everything, according to Goncalves.

She said, “I think there will be something for everyone. We do have of lot of children activities, but we will also have a lot of things that adults will really enjoy. There will also be picnic tables out so people can enjoy the live music. If they haven’t been, I would say stop by, you are bound to find something that will interest you whether it’s a product or an activity.”
