Ludlow resident hand-crafting items in support of the Boosters

Date: 7/25/2022

LUDLOW – Ludlow resident Grace Burek is selling her handmade Ludlow Lions mugs, key chains and bracelets as a Basketball Booster fundraiser for the Ludlow Lions boys & girls basketball teams.

Burek has been making similar items for a few months. She is the grandmother of a Ludlow Lions freshman player this coming season. Her daughter became a member of the Ludlow Boosters a month ago, and informed Burek that she would be a member as well.

“My daughter wanted me to have some kind of activity so I was all for it. I’m overwhelmingly happy and love to do things for other people,” Burek said. “The Boosters’ priority is to raise funds for the boys and girls basketball programs. After understanding what they’re trying to raise the funds for, I decided to make these items and give them 100 percent of the profits, less the cost of the items.”

The basketball boosters will be earning money from each item sold. Items include 15oz mugs for $15, key chains for $9 and a key chain with a bracelet for $12.

The money from this fundraiser will be used to help pay for warm-ups, travel outfits, bags for the incoming players as well as practice equipment both teams need. Burek is currently accepting pre-orders until Aug. 8 for the items, which can be picked up at the Aug. 23 Tasty Tuesday night, Ludlow’s summer series of food trucks, craft vendors and family fun. This takes place at the Ludlow High School parking lot from 4 - 8 p.m. at 500 Chapin St. The items will also be available for purchase during the event.

“I encourage everyone to come on out and support Lions basketball,” Burek replied. “It’s 100 percent run off donations and fundraising, so the support of the community is vital for the students success and increased positive experience with high school sports.”
