Return of Celebrate Ludlow looks to bring the community together

Date: 10/5/2022

LUDLOW – It is almost time for Celebrate Ludlow. After a two-year hiatus, the event will return but this year with a new date and location.

On Oct. 15, Celebrate Ludlow will take place at Memorial Park in the town gazebo area from 12 to 8 p.m. The event will be filled with plenty of food, entertainment, music and activities for everyone to enjoy.
The event use to take place in July at the Ludlow Fish and Game Club. This year’s Celebrate Ludlow Committee Chair Lauire Smith hopes the change of location and time of year helps bring more excitement and people to the event.

She said, “We are excited to bring back the event this year. We are hoping to reach the spark level this event once had. We thought it was a good time to change the time and location of the event to try and generate more foot traffic by making the event more visible for people going over the bridge in Springfield.”

There will be three local bands playing throughout the event. The band line up is It Takes Two from 12 to 1:30 p.m., Deep River Ramblers from 2 to 4 p.m. and Cold Shot from 5 to 6:45 p.m. There will also be a beer garden featuring Vanished Valley and Iron Duke Brewing open for the entire event.

The gazebo will be the main stage for the bands to perform for the day, but there will also be a second stage set up for town dance schools, martial arts demonstrations, magicians, and entertainers to perform also throughout the day.

The fall is a popular time for festivals to take place and Smith added that changing the event to this time of the year can help with attendance.

Smith said, “We are hoping to get more of the schools involved. People get busy over the summer with vacations and other plans so we wanted to have it this time of the year when kids and parents can make it to the event.”

She added, “Because of the time of year we also have added for the first time the pumpkin decorating contest.”

For those looking to join the pumpkin contest, you must drop off your decorated or carved entry between 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the gazebo area on Oct. 15. The pumpkins can be displayed until 8 p.m. and judges will award the most creative pumpkins with prizes. Children and families can enjoy the multiple inflatables, carnival games, and a children’s corner with craft time and story time hosted by Hubbard Memorial Library.

The one-day event is put together to allow local nonprofits to set up tables to raise money for their organizations. Smith said, “It is an opportunity to pull the town together for a good cause. I hope that people come out to support the groups in town. All the food is provided and served by nonprofit groups.”
Make sure to come to the event hungry because guests will be able to choose from hamburgers, hot dogs, taco in a bag, baked potatoes, pierogies, french fries, chicken fingers, meatball grinders, popcorn, fried dough, apple crisps and apple cider.

Smith said, “My favorite part will be seeing a successful event that brings the community together. I hope to see a tong of people there.”
