LUDLOW — Vanished Valley Brewing Company, 782 Center St., will open its doors for multiple community-focused events over the next couple of weeks including its second annual Family Fright Fest and two events with the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
Family Fright Fest will take place on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 2-6 p.m.
The event includes a costume contest starting at 4:30 p.m. and there will be multiple divisions including a kid’s costume contest, a family costume contest and a dog costume contest.
There will also be face painting, make your own candy apples, a keg tossing contest, donuts and warm apple cider, live animals and live music by Kitchen Jam.
The keg throwing contest will include an adult and kid section.
“All the treats and activities are complementary. There will be food and beverages available in our beer garden for purchase,” Vanished Valley co-founder and head brewer Josh Britton said.
Britton added that last year was such a big success that he is excited to be able to put it together again this year.
“It started off as an opportunity to get more kids in the backyard here all dressed up and it was a massive hit. Last year, I think we had well over 200 people show up. The response was amazing, and it was a really great time for the families,” Britton said.
Britton added that he is looking forward to seeing all the costumes again this year and provide a fun time for the community.
He said, “The costume contest portion was really fun. Seeing all the creative costumes that these kids and families come up with were really funny. I think last year that was the hardest part was certain age groups we didn’t know who to go with as the winner. We are looking forward to some new and entertaining costumes.”
Britton said he hopes to see a lot of the community come out to enjoy the event.
He added, “I think it brings another avenue, another opportunity for families to kind of enjoy the season and look forward to Halloween. We really pat ourselves on the back in terms of providing an environment of family fun and wholesome good stuff. Parents can enjoy good food and beverages and kids can enjoy the creative stations and treats we have.”
With Veterans Day approaching, Vanished Valley will also host a Thank You for Your Service beer launch party, an annual event that features this year’s batch of Thank You for Your Service kolsch style ale.
The launch party will take place on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. with food and drinks.
On Saturday, Nov. 4, Vanished Valley will be hosting its third annual Veterans pig roast from 1-4 p.m.
The event will include live music, raffles and a free pig roast meal for veterans and their families.
Both events are in collaboration with the Sgt. Joshua D. Deforges VFW Post 3236.
Britton said, “Both have been very special events for us every year. We love supporting our local vets and VFW. Eric Segundo from the local VFW has been a huge resource for us and getting the word out and support out for them. It is an opportunity for us to say thank you to our local veterans and support them however we can.”
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Thank You for Your Service brew goes back to Post 3236.
Britton added, “That is a huge event for us. We all have friends, families that are either in or have served. We are huge advocate for those guys, girls and we can’t wait to have them all back here for a good day.”
