Candidates narrowed down for Director of Student Services in Monson

Date: 5/4/2022

MONSON - Monson High School was ranked in the top 40 percent of high schools in the country, according to the U.S. News World Report.

“There are over 18,000 high schools and we are at 5,782,” said Superintendent Cheryl Clarke. “We qualify for displaying [the] best high schools ranked in 2022.”
Clarke congratulated the staff and students for this achievement, during the Monson School Committee meeting on April 28.

Director of Student Services

Clarke said they have “two very strong internal candidates” to fill the position of Director of Students Services. The current director, Suzanne Tetrault, has taken a full-time principal position at another district.

Clarke explained that she has set up a structure of various forums and interviews with the two candidates.

April 28 was the last day staff was able to express interest in being a part of the interview process. After receiving mass interest, Clarke said they may have to “pair it down,” to make sure representation is equal from each school, administration and union. She said this will include about 10 to 12 committee members. The official committee list was sent out on April 29.

On May 9, a parent and student forum will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the School Committee room. This event will also be on Zoom. “This will be an opportunity for families to come and ask any questions, say hello, kind of express their ideas about the candidates,” said Clarke.

On May 10, at 2:30 p.m., a staff forum will take place at Monson High School, which will be a similar format for the candidates. At 3:30 p.m., the candidates will repeat the same process at Granite Valley School, for the Granite Valley and Quarry Hill staff. Clarke said everyone is welcome to come and say hello.

On May 11, the two candidates will have their formal interviews.
“We are excited to begin the process and we want to make sure we have everyone’s feedback,” said Clarke.
