MONSON – Gingerbread men, frozen hot chocolate and of course, Santa, can be expected at the second annual “Christmas in July” event at Silver Bell Farms.
On July 16 and 17, the farm at 305 Silver St., will be up and running with activities related to the Christmas season.
Mike Moore, owner of Silver Bell Farms, said the event is designed for families, with plenty of activities for children.
On July 16, activities will begin at 9:30 a.m. and last until 4 p.m. On July 17, activities will go from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both days, there will be barrel train rides for participants. Inside of the bakery, Moore said they will be selling Christmas themed goods, along with a Grinch slushie.
Within the “main event,” Moore said there will be two big events each day. On Saturday, there will be a car show or “Christmas themed cruise” from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees are asked to decorate their cars, which will then be judged by Santa. At 11 a.m., Santa will arrive and award two prizes for “most festive” and “Santa’s choice,” said Moore. There will also be a first, second and third place winner.
Moore encourages people to register their cars ahead of time, as the farm can only fit so many. To register, visit Silver Bell Farms’ website at http://www.silverbellfarm.com/home.html or their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/SilverBellFarm.
After the car show, Santa will stick around to visit with children as they decorate cookies among other activities, said Moore.
On Sunday, the same activities will be offered, however, there will not be a car show. Instead, the entertainment will be “Generations Barbershop Quartet.” Moore explained that this creates a more “retro atmosphere” for an “old-school Christmas” vibe. The barbershop quartet will be performing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Some of the other offerings include face painting, cotton candy, cider donuts and Silver Bell Farms food trucks. Moore said they will be serving “comfort food” such as mac and cheese.
Although there is no cost for entry to the event, Moore said attendees will “pay as they go,” including lunch and activity costs. No registration is required. Moore told Reminder Publishing that this is the one event he allows as many people to attend, as there is a lot of space to spread out.
While last year’s event received a “good turnout,” Moore is hopeful for another successful year.
“For me, I like everything Christmas,” he said. With the growing interest around Christmas in July events, Moore shared, “I think it’s cool that in New England, we can do so much more in July. In the winter, you never know what the weather will be.” By hosting this event in the summer, Moore said, “[We can] do it all.”
The event will take place rain or shine. However, if it rains on July 16, Moore said the car show will be moved to July 17.
