MONSON — The annual town election will take place Tuesday, June 13, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Memorial Hall, 198 Main St.
Early voting is scheduled for Monday, June 5, through Friday, June 9, in the public meeting room in the Town Office Building at 110 Main St. Early voting hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday, June 7, is the only day offering later voting hours, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Vote-by-mail applications are available. The deadline to apply for this is Tuesday, June 6 by 5 p.m.
Town Clerk Mary Watson would like residents to know they may contact the clerk’s office at 413-267-4115 or townclerk@monson-ma.gov if they need assistance or have any questions. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
This election has four contested races and four uncontested seats open.
Three contestants are running for one open seat on the Select Board for a term of three years. Up for reelection is Mary Hull, along with new candidates Anthony Allard and Peter Warren.
The town clerk position is open for a term of three years, with Mary Watson running for reelection.
One three-year term is open on the Board of Assessors. Up for reelection is Ronald Avery Jr. and newcomer Dorothy Jenkins is running as well.
The School Committee has one position open for a term of three years, with new candidates Karen Nothe-Valley and Kourtney Senquiz running in this contested race. Committee member Kate Thompson’s term has ended, and Thompson’s decision not to run again leaves this seat open.
Marshall Harris is running uncontested for three-year term as water and sewer commissioner.
In a contested race for a three-year sewer commissioner position, Richard Smith is running for reelection against challenger Roxanne Gunther.
Running for a three-year term as parks and recreation ommissioner is incumbent.
Up for reelection for a five-year term on the Housing Authority is Christine Evans.
On the ballot is the Fire Station Building question, which asks voters whether to approve a Proposition 2 ½, debt exclusion for the cost the $6.6 million renovation project for the Fire Department. The debt exclusion was approved at Town Meeting on May 8, and must be passed at the election in order for the project to proceed.
