MONSON — Monson Summerfest Inc., a nonprofit organization, is gearing up for its fireworks event and the Fourth of July Parade. Summerfest started in 1979 by the Methodist Church in Monson that wanted an Independence Day Celebration focusing on family and community. Secretary Valerie Bogacz-Beaudoin said, “We want to bring families together at a free event to celebrate the Fourth of July.”

On June 24 the fireworks event will take place at Quarry Hill Community School fields, lots open at 5 p.m. There is a $5 per car parking fee. The rain date is June 25. There will be food booths, a magic show, bounce houses and a beer garden with music by Aquanette. At dusk a fireworks show will be presented by Pyrotecnico.

The Fourth of July Parade will be on July 4 at 10 a.m., which will kick off at the animal clinic down to Memorial Hall.

The theme for the parade is “Our Town Working Together.” The grand marshal are town of Monson department employees, while myMonson was selected Business of the Year.

After the parade, there will be games, crafters and vendors at Veterans Field throughout the day. There will also be an animal presentation and musical performances from Sarah the Fiddler and the James Paul Band.

“Monson Summerfest has continued to be presented by a dedicated group of volunteers,” said Beaudoin. “We are always looking for new members to keep the event timely. We donate our time and talents to bring two family friendly events to the community so we can all celebrate the 4th of July with friends and relatives.”
