Monson COA to host meet and greet with judge to discuss judicial process

Date: 5/8/2023

MONSON – The Council on Aging will be hosting Judge Bill Rooney for a question-and-answer session for National Judicial Outreach Day on Thursday, May 25 at 12:30 p.m.

According to the council, this is “an annual community outreach effort when judges go into the community to meet with groups across the commonwealth about the importance of an impartial and independent judiciary governed by the Rule of Law.”

“The goal is to strengthen community understanding and trust in the judicial system and to demonstrate the court’s commitment to equal access to justice,” according to the council.

Executive Director Lori Stacy said the event is designed to “clear up misconceptions about the judicial system.

One of the things that is kind of cool is that it is making the judge more human instead of being this person in the gown that’s kind of scary with the gavel.”
Stacy said last year’s event was well attended.

The event is open to the public, but Stacy said lunch is not free of charge with the event. Reservations are required for lunch after the session.

Stacy said lunch will be $3.50, and reservations should be made on the day before the event, Wednesday, May 24, by calling 413-267-4121.
