MONSON – From now through Aug. 30, the Monson Free Library is hosting “Music Tuesdays” on the patio. Every Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m., the public is welcome to bring a chair, snacks and some dancing shoes for a night stocked with live entertainment.
Hope Bodwell, library director, said they began this event on July 12, with a performance from Lexi Weege and The Wondertwins. “We had a small but enthusiastic crowd, but we had to move the concert inside due to thunderstorms,” she shared. In the event of rain or a storm, the concert will be moved indoors.
On July 19, Peter J. Newland Trio performed. Bodwell said the show was “a great success” with over 50 attendees.
Borderline Genius performed on July 26, after Reminder Publishing’s deadline.
Bodwell said there is no cost to attend the event. “The library is using money won in the Monson Savings Bank Community Giving Initiative the past few years,” she explained. “The community voted for us [a nonprofit] so we are giving back to the community.”
Bodwell told Reminder Publishing that they received a total of $3,000. “We won $1,000 each year and we saved it throughout COVID-19 so we could do this [event],” she added.
“Next year we hope to have some businesses sponsor each week so we can continue to bring music to Monson,” said Bodwell.
For the remainder of the summer, the “Music Tuesdays” lineup is as follows:
Aug. 2: Frankenphil
Aug. 9: Tony & Amanda
Aug. 16: Sounds Legit
Aug. 23: The Willies
Aug 30: Wild Bill & The Flying Sparks
Although there have only been a few concerts so far, Bodwell said she is hopeful that they remain “on a roll” and “continue to get a crowd as word spreads.”
