Monson PTSA to host annual Trunk or Treat event at new location

Date: 10/17/2023

MONSON — It’s time for another spooky season celebration! The Monson Parent Teacher Student Association will host its annual Trunk or Treat event on Saturday, Oct. 28, the organization recently announced on Facebook.

This year, the event will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Monson High School parking lot and host 25 decorated trunks.

When entering the event, attendees should first visit the blue PTSA tent where each child will be given one ticket to vote for their favorite trunk, according to PTSA President Denise Newland. The tickets can be placed inside paper bags at each trunk. At 5 p.m., the three trunks with the most tickets will be awarded a prize.

Attendees are asked to bring a $5 bag of candy as admission for each child. This candy will be used throughout the event to ensure all trunks have enough supplies to give away, Newland explained. Donations will also be accepted at the blue tent.

Trunk or Treat is “a good way to bring school staff, families and community members together to provide a fun and safe activity for the kids in town,” Newland explained, stating that these types of events both delight school children and allow parents to meet members of the school system.

Since the PTSA hosted the first Trunk or Treat 10 years ago, the event has increasingly reached more children. It’s this community support that pushes the volunteer-run organization to continue hosting the special event.

“It was hard to keep track, but I believe last year it was well over 200 people,” Newland said. “I am happy that we can provide such a fun and well-loved event for the community.”

In addition to the trunk or treat activity, this year’s event will also have a decorated “Haunted School Walkthrough” in the high school’s main hallway run by the National Honor Society, Newland stated.

Entrance to this activity is $2 and all funds will go toward supporting the school.

Parking for the event is available at the high school, as well as at the nearby baseball field and at Quarry Hill Community School. The rain date will be at the same location on Oct. 29.

Residents who wish to volunteer or register their vehicles as part of the trunk-decorating competition should contact monsonptsa@gmail.com for more information.
