Date: 12/15/2022

MONSON – Dec. 7 marked 81 years since the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor.

To pay tribute to the 2,403 people who lost their lives that day, the town of Monson hosted a remembrance ceremony at Memorial Hall. The ceremony was led by Veterans Services Director Troy Brin.

Brin began by sharing a prayer followed by a moment of silence for the military men and women who died making the ultimate sacrifice along with those who continue to serve our country.

“What a beautiful day it is today,” said Brin. “It’s raining out, it’s cloudy, but I don’t see the rain [and] I don’t see any clouds. I see the shining spirit of all those who lost their lives on Dec. 7, 1941.”

He continued, “We gather today to remember all of those we lost [that day] but we also gather to honor the bravery of those who saved lives and those who persevered.”

Brin said it wasn’t just the fleet at Pearl Harbor that was attacked but it was our entire nation.

“It’s appropriate for the town of Monson to lay the wreath as a reminder to our citizens in the community of the courage of those who defended our country,” shared Brin.
