Mystic Grove Goods to host fundraiser for local PTO’s

Date: 6/27/2022

MONSON – One local business owner is hosting a unique fundraiser to support Monson and Palmer Parent Teacher Organizations (P.T.Os) and needs your help.

Mystic Grove Goods Owner Tracey Kida is having a fundraiser and is looking for people to donate the following:

  • Interesting, shaped glass bottles (oil/vinegar, liquor, dressing, decorative and more)
  • Expired flour, baking yeast, baking mixes, etc.
  • Hardcover books and blank journals
  • Costume jewelry and chains
  • Decorative brooms of any size
  • Dried or silk flowers
  • Barbie or similar dolls of any condition
  • Witch hats and plastic skulls

Each donation received by Aug. 31 will be matched $1 toward gift certificates for the P.T.Os of Old Mill Pond in Palmer and Granite Valley in Monson to use as fundraisers.

Mystic Grove Goods is a hand-made craft business focused primarily on items in the genre of paganism and fantasy that include fairies, dragons, magic and witches. Currently, Kida is a teacher at Old Mill Pond and her daughter is a student at Granite Valley.

“I’ve worked with the school district for a very long time,” Kida responded. “It’s my way of helping Palmer and Monson in return. My goal is to be able to offer a $50 gift certificate to each school.”

Kida will recycle these items to create Halloween decor. The bottles, powders and jewelry will be used to make potion bottles. The books and journals will be made into spell books. The dolls will be made into various fantasy creatures, statues, monsters, fairies, mermaids and so forth.

“My husband and I are huge Halloween fans,” Kida said. “We love making beautiful and unique creations. Anything we can come up with that’s unique and different from what you can get at any store.”

She continued, “I love the different intricate bottles to make. Vinegar bottles, oil bottles and liquor bottles have very unique characteristics, but they end up in the recycle bin. I can turn them into something beautiful that could be a decoration that will last for years rather than just be in recycling.”

If this fundraiser is successful, Kida said she would be happy to do it every year. She hopes to expand Mystic Grove Goods to the next level. Kida said she is working on building a website at the moment and will have it up in a few weeks. She will be attending the Three Rivers Food Truck Festival on July 8, Christmas in July Fair at Westview Farms Creamery on July 16, Summer Block Party & Fair in Belchertown on July 23 and the Western Mass Pagan Pride in Northampton on Sept. 24. Additional fairs will be posted on the Mystic Grove Goods Facebook page as they are added.
