MONSON — Westview Farms Creamery will host their 4th Annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 16 and 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will have hayrides, their goat petting zoo, a bonfire and the Easter Bunny will be available to take photos.
“We’re kicking off our season with this event,” said owner Donald Foster. “This is something for families to come out, enjoy the beautiful scenery and have a good time.”
Located at 109 East Hill Rd., Westview Farms Creamery is a family-owned and operated business serving homemade ice cream with mouth-watering flavors, such as their sought-after maple bacon and dirty pumpkin which is offered in the fall, brown sugar pecan, chocolate covered cherries - and the town favorite - Monson Mud: a mocha based-ice cream with M&M’s, homemade waffle cone pieces, sprinkles, Reese’s pieces, nuts, chocolate chunks, homemade brownie pieces and crushed peanut butter cups all hand stirred in.
Westview was founded by the Bradway family in the 1800’s. Over the years, the creamery has expanded to include a restaurant, petting zoo and hayrides. According to Foster, it is also considered the best place for autumn pumpkin picking.
Foster and his business partner Kevin O’Malley bought the farm from David Bradway in 2016. “When we bought the farm six years ago, they didn’t do anything like [the egg hunt],” Co-owner Kathy Foster responded, “It just seemed like spring time at the farm was a great time to open it up to the public, and it’s always fun to see the kids and their families get so excited. This year, we’re hopeful that we’ll have good weather and that folks will be able to come up and enjoy.”
She continued, “It’s just so wonderful to see the kids without electronics; playing with one another, playing on the playground, petting the goats and playing catch or frisbee. It’s just a nice environment; it’s a safe environment. Parents can relax and watch their kids be a kid. It’s a good wholesome family environment.”
Later in the season Westview will have live music – weather permitting – on Memorial Day weekend, Fourth of July weekend and Labor Day weekend. In addition, there will be live music every weekend after Labor Day until the business closes for the season.
When the farm has music, they will also offer beer on tap from three local breweries, as well as wine from Brimfield Winery.
The farm is hosting four benefits this year: the Carol Rivest Memorial Foundation’s benefit for domestic violence awareness on June 11; K-9 benefit in honor of Monson’s own K-9 Rex on June 25; a craft fair to benefit the Friends of Monson Seniors, specifically Senior Citizen Holiday gift baskets on July 16, and Cruise for the Critters to benefit Second Chance Animal Shelter on Sept. 24.
“The last couple of years have been tough,” Donald said. “People have been scared to leave their homes and it’s good to get people out and socialize. The Easter Egg Hunt is a great family-fun atmosphere. It’s a good feeling to put it together and be able to provide something like this for the community.”
