Date: 5/31/2022

NORTHAMPTON – On June 5, Thornes Marketplace staple Booklink Booksellers will be hosting a visit from prolific writer Jane Yolen, author of 400 books for children, young adults and adults.

Yolen, whose works have won countless awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award, will visit Booklink from 12 to 1:30 p.m. to sign copies of her latest children’s book, “Eeny Up Above.”

“I am really excited about this event,” said Peg Duffy, a manger at Booklink. “Jane Yolen is a legend. She is just such an amazing person.”

According to Duffy, Yolen is well-connected with Interlink, a known publishing entity residing in Northampton. “When [Interlink] reached out and asked if we wanted to do an event, I couldn’t have imagined a better way to get back to in-person events,” said Duffy, adding that Yolen will most likely be reading from the book, and people will have an opportunity to purchase the new book, as well.

Booklink will be clearing a lot of space out of there upstairs and downstairs so parents and children will have an opportunity to participate and hang out at the store. “I grew up with Jane Yolen,” said Duffy. “I think it’s awesome that she continues to be the amazingly successful author she is, and then to be able to host an event for her, it’s awesome.

“What I love about Jane Yolen’s work is she really hits the heart of childhood, but she does it in a way that is nuanced and thoughtful,” continued Duffy. “Her books are one of those ones that I recommend to families time and time again.”

Yolen is the winner of the World Fantasy Award for her folk collection Favorite Folktales from around the World, she has authored a dozen other folklore collections, including “Gray Heroes,” “Mirror, Mirror,” “Not One Damsel in Distress,” and “The Fairies’ Ring.” Her work has won the Nebula Award, the Caldecott Medal, three Mythopoeic Society Awards, the Jewish Book Award, five bodies of work awards, and been nominated for the National Book Award. She lives in Massachusetts and St. Andrews, Scotland.
The event is open to all ages.
