NORTHAMPTON – Marketing Doctor, a national advertising agency out of Northampton, was recently recognized nationally for numerous awards thanks to their growing impact across the nation.
Founded in 2003, Marketing Doctor specializes in media buying and media planning with a strong focus on the “best brand visibility for clients.” The agency also specializes in regional, state, and federal government marketing, as well as work in healthcare, economic development, retail/ecommerce and more. Additionally, the agency uses a data-driven approach that converges traditional, digital, and emerging media platforms to achieve synergy across all channels, better brand visibility, cost efficiency, and a higher return on investment for clients.
For 2021 specifically, the agency was ranked 23 on Adweek’s Fastest Growing Agencies list, number 1,063 on Inc. 5,000 Fastest Growing Private Companies in America, and they were ranked number 13 on Ad Age Best Places to Work list in 2021. The agency was also included on Clutch’s Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies list and Clutch Top 100 Sustained Growth Companies list for 2021.
President and founder Janet Casey was also recognized by the highly prestigious International Women Presidents’ Organization, and the company was recognized as one of the 50 fastest growing women-owned and women-led companies globally. The Women Presidents’ Organization also named Casey as a 2021 Woman 2 Watch.
In an interview with Reminder Publishing, Casey spoke on the agency’s success and how they have been able to maintain it over these past 18 years. “I have a lot of ‘pinch me’ moments,” said Casey. “I have grown this staff here of rock stars, and I’ve realized that [the success] is not because of me, but because of the strong staff we have here.”
With a staff of around 30, Casey said she always tries to hire people who are ambitious and have really high standards, while continuing to maintain the positive energy with the current staff.
“A lot of agencies don’t go the extra step, but we go the extra step, or extra two to three steps in every department,” said Casey, when talking about her agency. “We typically get other agencies’ metrics, and we typically beat them by 100 to 400 percent quickly.”
When speaking on accomplishments, Casey said that the company was recently able to land their first major retail account with Skull Candy, a company based out in Utah that markets headphones, hands-free devices, MP3 players, and more. “It was just one of those measurable moments, where this little company in Northampton is beating the best minds on Madison Avenue,” said Casey, regarding the Skull Candy partnership.
Beyond that, Reminder Publishing wrote a story in October about Marketing Doctor’s $30,000 advertising contest that Holyoke Sporting Goods eventually won. The agency is currently helping the store formulate goals with a marketing plan that includes traditional and digital media platforms.
As new media continues to emerge daily, Marketing Doctor also continues to adjust, according to Casey. She said one way to get clients involved is through connected TV and programmatic video, because it’s easier to target niche groups through this methodology. In the past, the agency has worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to create campaigns that encourage pregnant women to receive their flu shot, and they used programmatic video to help reach that niche audience.
When speaking on the impact COVID-19 had on the agency, Casey noted how the entire team learned to become more flexible and understanding amidst a mental and physical health crisis that affected everyone on a global basis. The company closed in March of 2020 like everyone else, but they were able to return to the office by July. “Everyone here is reasonable, and they stay home when they’re sick,” said Casey. “We haven’t had one case of COVID-19 spread in our office.”
For the future, the company is doing its first international travel in February where three people from the agency will be sent to an International Digital Media Conference to expand the company’s reach even more on a global scale. The conference will be conducted in Cabo, Mexico. The agency plans to attend another conference in Switzerland next September, as well.
