Mochinut coming to Northampton in 2024

Date: 1/2/2024

NORTHAMPTON — A chain specializing in mochi donuts, Korean-style hot dogs, soft serve and boba is making its way to Northampton sometime in the near future.

Mochinut, which has opened restaurants in more than 150 locations in the United States and also has spots in South Korea and Thailand, is coming to 96 Main St., according to a sign posted outside of the vacant building’s window.

The chain, which was founded by Jaewook Ha in Cerritos, California, serves a popular brand of mochi donuts, which are donuts that originated from Hawaii.
The Mochinut in Northampton will replace the former Bruegger’s Bagels location, which officially closed a couple of years ago.

According to the Mochinut website, mochi donuts are a combination of American doughnuts and Japanese Mochi; the latter of which is a Japanese rice cake.

“Mochinut is gaining popularity owing to its unique shape and wonderful texture; light crispy coating with a soft chewy inside,” reads the chain’s website.

The site says that mochi donuts are made with rice flour, which makes them stretchy and chewy and gives them a textural element different from yeast or cake donuts.

There are around 25 flavors of the food but the menu varies by location.

Mochinut did not respond to request for comment as of press time.
