Northampton Stop & Shop celebrates reopening after upgrades

Date: 6/8/2021

NORTHAMPTON – On May 28, Stop & Shop’s Northampton location celebrated its grand reopening, which includes additions to services across the store.

Over email, Northampton store manager Mike Renkie and Stop & Shop’s Western Massachusetts District Director Johanna Maldonado collaborated to answer questions about the reopening. They said the store would see upgrades to the produce section, meat and seafood section and the bakery.

“Customers who stop by our Northampton store will immediately notice the expansion of our produce department,” they wrote.

“We have also expanded our prepared food sections, offering grab and go meals, meal solutions for busy shoppers, and an expanded meat and seafood showcase. We have also expanded our fresh bakery, offering custom cakes and sweets just in time for the busy graduation season,” they added.

Along with expansions to grocery options, the store will also offer an updated pharmacy experience.

“We have updated our pharmacy, where customers can work with our trained and trusted pharmacists for prescription consultations, and even receive a COVID-19, flu, or shingles vaccine during their shopping trip,” they wrote.

Maldonado and Renkie said the changes are meant to make shoppers’ lives easier.

“We want to make our customers’ lives as easy as possible, and we know that over the past year so many families have needed to navigate remote learning, work from home, hybrid schooling, and all the challenges that come with these changes,” they wrote. “Offering the freshest produce, meat, and seafood to customers while also providing easy, on the go meal solutions for our shoppers to make our lives easier.”

Despite the changes, the store was able to remain open throughout the entire upgrade process.

“Over the course of a few months we were able to add all of the new store updates overnight so as to not impact our customers’ shopping experience,” they wrote.

Alongside the grand reopening, Stop & Shop also donated $1,000 in gift cards to the Hampshire Regional YMCA.

"In hopes of reaching as many individuals as possible facing food insecurity in the Northampton area, we wanted to expand our outreach by providing $1,000 in gift cards to the Hampshire Regional YMCA to provide access to those who may not receive support from the food bank or other food pantry agencies,” they wrote.

In addition to the gift card donation, Maldonado and Renkie said the store has previously teamed up with the YMCA.

“Stop & Shop prides itself on fostering strong community partnerships. Our store works with the Hampshire Regional YMCA on various initiatives to help ensure members have access to food and other necessities during times of need,” they wrote.
