PALMER — On May 31, the Palmer Motorsports Park will host its All Wheels — trucks, cars, motorcycles and tractors — Car Show Benefit for the Palmer Food Share and the Jubilee Cupboard at 58 W. Ware Rd. from 4 p.m. until dusk. Entry is $5 per person or a nonperishable item. Sponsors include Lizak Bus Tours, Sarat Ford Lincoln, Dunkin’ and Classic Hits 97.7.
“This is our second year of doing these events,” said club Director Al Sandy. “We realized last year with the tough economy that a lot of people were really hurting financially, and for many, making the decision on whether to heat their house, buy food, or get medicine is a challenge.”
He continued, “Anything we could do to help alleviate that, and in turn give back to the community is our goal. All funds and proceeds from the event go to the food pantries. The more folks that attend, the better it is for everyone involved and really helps the food pantries.”
Palmer Motorsports Park’s road racing course is now known throughout the world as one of the most picturesque race courses that exist today. They are often referred to as the Nurburgring of North America. The Nurburgring is in Germany and is well known worldwide for its picturesque beauty.
The park has had visitors from Finland, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and Japan, come to Palmer specifically to drive their course. Sandy said the road course is truly unique and it is the only road course he knows of that goes up and over a small mountain. With the park’s membership program, people can sign up and bring their cars out on the track to drive at one of 100 member days a season.
“I’m hoping for nice weather,” Sandy replied. “There are some really unique cars in Central Massachusetts. It’s amazing to see all the different types of vehicles that have come out to the show. We have had fire trucks, ambulances, sports cars, American Muscle cars, NASCAR racers, road course cars, drag strip cars and some so unique they needed to be brought in on trailers to display.”
Since Palmer Motorsports Park is located in both Palmer and Ware, they felt the Palmer Food Share and Jubilee Cupboard should benefit from the event.
The concept of doing the event was born out of the park’s concern for senior citizens especially. Sandy told Reminder Publishing last year was tough on everyone. Normally their facility is private, so they thought it would be a good idea to invite everyone out to the facility for a food pantry benefit car show. The park received permission from the town manager to open it to the public for the shows that benefit the food pantries.
“We really do appreciate it,” said director Catherine Plouffe of the Palmer Food Share. “We need all the help we can get year after year. We’re grateful to Palmer Motorsports Park for thinking of us.”
Director Cheryl Vaugh of the Jubilee Cupboard added, “It’s so nice for them to take the time and effort collecting food and delivering it to us. It’s wonderful and we just appreciate it so much.”
Palmer Food Share is located at 39 Walnut St. in Palmer on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and the Jubilee Cupboard is on 20 Park St. in Ware and is open every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
