Palmer Public Library to host 3rd annual Sandy Nichols Book Sale

Date: 11/7/2023

PALMER — The Palmer Public Library will be hosting its annual Sandy Nichols Book Sale this year from Monday, Nov. 20, to Saturday, Dec. 2, in the library’s Community Room.

The event, now in its third year, will have 15 tables of books and audiobooks totaling “thousands of books,” Borrower Services Librarian Richard Clark Jr. said.

While around 20% of books were donated by the public, most of the books for sale were removed from the library’s shelves and contain library markings, Clark explained. Nonfiction books will be offered at 10 cents each and fiction books at 25 cents each.

This annual sale is in addition to the Library Loft, a year-round used bookstore located at 1085 Park St., and Library Loft II, the library’s in-house bookstore, according to a Palmer Public Library flyer.

The event is dedicated to past library President Sandy Nichols, who ran Library Loft II during her time volunteering at the library and helped to found the Library Loft, Clark said.

A frequent traveler, Nichols often spoke at the Friends of the Library’s events, as well as assisted with fundraisers and hosted book sales before the Library Loft was created, the flyer explains.

Nichols was also a member of the Building Expansion Committee, where she led the interior design process for each floor of the library and personally prepared each historical image now seen in the meeting rooms, the flyer states.

After her death in 2020, the Palmer Public Library sought to create an annual book sale for the town and decided to dedicate the event to Nichols to celebrate her years of support, Clark said.

The Palmer Public Library is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The Sandy Nichols Book Sale will be open during these hours.
