Seven Railroads Brewing Company closes in on opening

Date: 8/9/2023

PALMER — Seven Railroads Brewing Company has been in the works for some time. Now, owners Rachel Rosenbloom and Michael Bedrosian are almost ready to open.

After their request for a pouring license was approved at a July 31 Licensing Commission meeting, all that is needed now is to receive the official permit from the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission. Seven Railroads, named after the seven railroads that once traveled through Palmer, is located at 1235 Park St. Rosenbloom hopes to open at the end of September.

The pair have lived in Palmer since 2016 yet only toyed with the idea of opening a brewery here about two years ago.

“We both are from eastern Mass., right outside of Boston. We met at [the University of Massachusetts] and fell in love with Western Mass.,” said Rosenbloom. Palmer was the location that “checked all the boxes.”

There is not another brewing company in the area quite like Seven Railroads, focusing on lagers and pub ales.

“We have three core beers we will be introducing once we open,” said Rosenbloom. The beers are all named after a sentimental part of their lives.

“‘Eager Beagal brown porter’ is named after our dog, Barley. ‘Old Exit 8 IPA’ refers to the exit Mike and I will always consider home and ‘Palmer Pils’ is our Palmer special,” said Rosenbloom. With a beer named after their dog, it’s no surprise that Rosenbloom is hoping to be a dog-friendly brewery.

The couple has been homebrewing for over 10 years and they have taken part in several homebrew competitions throughout the area. Aside from homebrewing, Rosenbloom has been brewing professionally at Fort Hill Brewery in Easthampton for five years.

“I can’t wait until our grand opening. I’m really excited to share this place with everyone in town,” said Rosenbloom.

With the proposed opening date in late September, Rosenbloom hopes to hold an Octoberfest at the brewery.

“We plan to have a special beer for Octoberfest,” said Rosenbloom and also mentioned that the two plan to release other special aged beers such as stouts and more.

The brewery will not sell food, but Rosenbloom noted that they want to include local food trucks in the future.

“We’re currently looking into options and will start reaching out to potential vendors once we get closer to opening,” she said.

Before Seven Railroads can officially open, the building needs to complete all renovations. “While we have started construction, we still need to finish the taproom and bathrooms, and set up the tanks to get the brewery all set,” said Rosenbloom.

Before the opening, she said there will be cans available for sale. Ahead of all that, information will be posted to the brewery’s social media pages.
