PALMER – Top Floor Learning is back hosting their annual May Basket Raffle.
Director of Adult Literacy Donna Kimball said, “It is great that the raffle is back. This is one of our biggest fundraisers to help us keep going to pay our rent on the building and get materials we need for the tutors and students. I surely hope that we exceed our goals to help assist new students.”
Top Floor Learning is a non-profit organization dedicated to help adult learners achieve their educational goals offering computer tutoring, HiSet Preparation, English Language Learning and citizenship. The group started out as the Quaboag Literacy Tutors in the ‘70s in the old Palmer Library. Kimball explained, “When the library was expanded and remodeled, we came here as Top Floor Learning on the third floor of the library in 2005.” Since then, Top Floor Learning has provided a wide range of adult literacy programs and lifelong learning courses, workshops and computer classes to the residents of the Quaboag Hills region and surrounding areas.
Tickets will be available May 1 at the Palmer Public Library. They are $5 each, however interested parties can purchase five tickets for $20. The baskets will be on display downstairs in the library on May 2, and the drawing will be on June 1 at 11 a.m. The proceeds from the raffle will help support their literacy programs: reading, writing, math, high school equivalency preparation, English as a Second Language and citizenship preparation.
Top Floor Learning currently has 55 baskets ranging from handmade items such as handmade quilts, massages, to wine and cheese.
There are paintings, re-caned chairs and gift certificates to various businesses, a night at Tanglewood for a James Taylor concert and a night at Jacob’s Pillow. In addition, there are refurbished, re-purposed architectural design into lamps and countless other unique items.
Photos of the baskets are posted on the Top Floor Learning Facebook page with the link: https://topfloorlearningpalmer.files.wordpress.com to download tickets. Residents can print out and send in their choices to hopefully win a basket. As of press time, chances were only for sale if an individual downloaded the tickets from their Facebook page and then sent the organization a check or money order.
“We want people to know we’re back here and open where we had been closed for two years,” Kimball replied. “We’re here providing services and we’re always looking for tutors to help us with our new students as well as we’re always taking on students.”
The Palmer Public Library is located on 1455 North Main St. Call Top Floor Learning at 283-2329 to request additional tickets or email info@topfloorlearning.org.
