Homebound and isolated seniors receive gift from community leaders in South Hadley

Date: 12/27/2022

SOUTH HADLEY – Holiday cheer is in the air in South Hadley as earlier this month stockings were delivered to the community’s homebound and isolated seniors through the communities first ever Stuff-A-Stocking program.

The Friends of the South Hadley Seniors, in collaboration with the Council on Aging, Fire Districts 1 & 2, the Police Department, and many volunteers, delivered 400 stockings across town to seniors. The stockings contained over a dozen items including stamps, a flashlight, toiletries, playing cards, pill boxes and more.

Items were donated by the Friends of the South Hadley Seniors, the Council on Aging, Loomis Village and both Fire Districts.

“We are thankful for all who helped us with this undertaking that hopefully touched a small part of our local senior community in a very positive way,” said Janet Stawasz of Friends of South Hadley Seniors and one of the program organizers. “Seeing the smiles and gratitude of the recipients was truly heartwarming.”

Deliveries of stockings were made by the Police and Fire Departments, the Council on Aging and the Friends of the South Hadley Seniors.

Fire District 1 Captain Jason Houle said, “We are happy to have the opportunity to support the Stuff-A-Stocking program. It was great to have a minute to visit with our seniors and see how happy they were to receive the stockings.”

The Friends of the South Hadley Seniors and the Council on Aging are hoping to make this an annual community tradition.
