SOUTH HADLEY – The South Hadley Selectboard hosted a brief meeting to discuss precinct redistricting on Nov. 16.
Town Clerk Carlene Hamlin was in attendance to go over the new precincts with the Selectboard. She said that South Hadley is now considered a medium-large community and compared the town to cities such as Foxborough and Concord.
“We are in Western Massachusetts, but we have a commonality more toward the eastern part of the state,” said Hamlin.
According to Hamlin, South Hadley is now a “well-sought community” with a total of 18,150 residents.
“That’s great news for us when it comes to the next 10 years in applying for state and federal grants and allocations we’ve been looking for,” she said.
With the growth of the community and 2020 census data, Hamlin said that there has been new redistricting mapped out by the state. The new mapping came to them in April and some districts have changed.
Hamlin said that there have been slight changes in District B, C and E. She showed the Selectboard the new map for approval.
“I think it looks well, it reads well and everybody is in agreement,” she said.
In the end, the Selectboard voted to accept the presented 2020 reprecincting plan including the new map, legal description and block descriptions.
Town Administrator Lisa Wong then went over her recent report. She said that, in the past week, she had a meeting to discuss the Rapid Recovery Plan and how they would be using this grant money for technical assistance.
Wong also said that she has been sending out a detailed weekly update email and newsletter to Selectboard members and residents as well.
The Selectboard also took the time to remind residents of COVID-19 testing at Town Hall every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
